Another Day, Another Bell Tower

Tired of not having a bell tower to toll the hours for us (see 6:24 AM), yesterday we loaded up the family and moved four hours north to Burgundy – Vineyards. Cote d’Or. Wines. Swimming pools. Bell towers.

We decided to leave our hilltop villa in Sablet early to spend a couple of extra days in Bourgogne. It feels like slipping in an extra holiday – one that we weren’t expecting.

We are now settled into a very nice house in Puligny-Montrachet, one of the small wine villages in the heart of Burgundy wine country – the Cote d’Or. This house is managed by some Burgundian friends and we were lucky that they were able to fit us into our 4-day window of time. Chex Montrachet (as the house is called) is so much better appointed and so much more comfortable than our Sablet house, as lovely as the view was there. P-M itself is lovely and pristine and surrounded by some of the best vineyards in the world.

Even more important, we are directly next to the village church, its bell tower, and its clock. Being this close we’ll never be in doubt about the time.
